Mission Stories
Many former patients have graciously offered to share their stories with Snowy Hydro SouthCare to inform the community about this important regional medical service. We thank these individuals for their courage and willingness to share. Here are their stories:
| Former Patient: Steve Michaux - In February 2001, Steve Michaux was doing what he enjoyed - free diving. He was trying out a new trick and asked three other boys in the area to watch him do the triple back flip. He back flipped, dived, and never came up for air. Kaleen boys Brett Price, 18, his 15-year-old brother Sam, and friend Ryan Quade, 18, of Charnwood, immediately jumped into the water to find him, and their split second decision saved his life. After wading him to a rock ledge, the boys rang emergency services who sent fire crews and the Snowy Hydro SouthCare Helicopter to retrieve him. After fire crews got him to higher ground, he was winched into the Snowy Hydro SouthCare Helicopter, stabilised and transported to The Canberra Hospital with serious head injuries. That was nearly 8 years ago and since then Steve has put an enormous amount of effort using his experience and intelligence to help those that helped him. Marrying his wife Cassie, he then packed up and moved to Sydney where he is now installing modern operating theatre equipment in hospitals around Australia and overseas. Steve and his father in law Lincoln have worked tirelessly to help those in need, including being the sole organizers of a basketball carnival for 500 Australian and Papua New Guinean youths as well as many other sporting and social activities. Steve has also helped Lincoln set up Beaconhill, a company dedicated to helping businesses, major projects, organisations and people to be clear about their direction and helping them navigate theirway there. www.beaconhill.net.au | |
